By Train

Buses from Bali to Surabaya depart from Mengwi Terminal or Ubung Terminal in Denpasar, taking around 9 hours. Sleeper buses are also available for a more comfortable journey. - By Plane
The fastest option is flying from I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport (Bali) to Juanda Airport (Surabaya). The flight takes less than 1 hour.
Malang to Surabaya
With a distance of only 95 km, Malang to Surabaya is a short journey:

Buses depart from Arjosari Terminal in Malang and arrive at Bungurasih Terminal in Surabaya, taking about 2 hours. - By Train
Trains from Malang Station to Gubeng Station or Pasar Turi Station in Surabaya are another convenient option. Commuter line tickets cost around IDR 10,000–12,000 (USD 0,62 – 0,74), with a travel time of approximately 2 hours 40 minutes.
Other Routes
As a very strategic location, especially for sea travel, Tanjung Perak Port is a favorite spot for sea crossings from Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and several other regions in Indonesia.
Not only that, the route from Semarang to Surabaya can also be taken by ferry from Tanjung Mas Port in Semarang. Additionally, you can travel from Semarang to Surabaya by plane, train, or bus, with a travel time of approximately 4 hours.
If you are in Yogyakarta, you can choose to travel by bus or train from Yogyakarta Station (YK) or Lempuyangan Station (LP).
Getting Around Surabaya: Travel Like a Local
Exploring Surabaya is easy with various transportation options available to suit your needs. For a truly local experience, you can hop on angkot (minivans) that navigate the city’s streets, including smaller alleys. Alternatively, you can choose from modern public transport options like the Suroboyo Bus, Trans Semanggi Suroboyo electric bus, Wira-Wiri feeder cars, or the commuter trains.
Notes: To pay for public transportation in Surabaya, use an E-Money card for buses, cash for angkots and taxis, or app payments for online services like Grab or Gojek.
For more convenience, ride-hailing services like Grab and Gojek are widely available, offering quick and affordable rides around the city. If you prefer the freedom of a private vehicle, motorbike and car rentals are also easy to find.
However, based on my experience a few years ago, navigating Surabaya on a motorbike can be tricky! I got lost, and the city’s many one-way streets made it challenging to find my way back. It was a bit stressful, as I had to take long detours. To avoid this, always keep Google Maps ready on your phone—it’s a lifesaver and will ensure a smoother adventure around Surabaya!
